What kind of plants are good for a NW facing border under some pine trees? Pyrennials or shrubs – smallish?.
On the southeast side my garden to S England is a 6ft high fence of solid wood with a few large trees just on the other side and overlooking my garden. It is therefore quite suspicious, but the soil is light and quite good. I need ideas for beautiful plants that grow a couple feet or less, or climb the fence. Preferably flowering. So far have Hebe and Veronica and some wild geraniums and they did OK.
I used to be a gardener profession, I have a similar border and find hydrangeas do well, most perennials are fairly tolerant. push a couple of shadow tolerant clematis, you only need a couple, but rather pick widespread as Montana, and support them until they reach the trees, then they use the trees overhanging the support, they come in many colors and now vary as to when they flower.
