Wild-Flower Garden

Many people say they have no chance at all with Wild-Flower Garden. This is not a matter of luck, but a question of understanding, for wild flowers are like people and each has its own personality. What a plant has been used in the Nature it desires always. In fact, once removed from its fate of living conditions, he falls ill and dies. It's enough to tell us that we should copy Nature herself. Suppose you are hunting wild flowers. To you choose certain flowers of the forest, the view from the ground where they find the place, conditions, neighborhood, and neighbors.

Suppose you find dog-tooth violets and wind flowers that grow close together. Then put them together in your own new garden. Suppose you find a violet enjoying an open situation, then it should always be the same. You see this point, is not it? If you want wild flowers to grow in a tame garden make them feel at home. Cheat them into believing they are almost still in their original haunts.

Wildflowers should be transplanted after blossoming time is over. Take a trowel and a basket in the woods with you. As you take a few, a columbine, or a hepatica, be sure to take with the roots of certain clean factory floors, which must be excited about it when replanted.

The bed in which these plants are going to be prepared before this trip of yours. Of course, you do not want to bring the plant to wait more than a day or night before planting. They should go into new quarters at once. The bed needs soil the Woods, deep and rich and full of leaf mold. The under-drainage system should be excellent. Then, the plants should not go in the water-logged ground. Some people think that all wood plants should have a soil saturated with water. But the woods themselves are not wet. It may be that you need dig your garden up very deeply and put some stone in the background. On the top floor should go. And on top, where the topsoil was once, put a new layer of rich soil brought you out of the woods.

Before planting water the soil well. Then, when you make places for installations in each hole in the earth belonging to the plant to be set.

I think this plan would be quite nice to have a garden Wild Flower and a succession of bloom from early spring to fall, let us therefore begin by March, the hepatica, spring beauty and saxifrage. Then comes April bearing in its arms the beautiful columbine, the tiny BLUETS and Wild Geranium. In May there is the dog-tooth violet, wood anemone, false Solomon's seal, Jack-in-the-pulpit, Robin Wake, bloody and purple. June will give the bellflower, mullein, lemon balm and foxglove. I choose the milkweed tuberose gay for July. Let turtle head, aster, Joe Pye weed, and Queen Anne's lace make the rest of the season brilliant until frost.

Let us all have a few likes and dislikes of these plants. After you are once started, you keep adding to this list of wild-flower.

There is nobody who does not love the hepatica. Before Spring has really decided to come, this little flower sticks his head high and puts everything to shame. Tucked under a blanket of dry leaves the blossoms wait for a ray of warm sunshine to bring them out. These Flowers embryos are also protected by a fuzzy coating. This recalls a similar protective covering which new fern leaves. In spring, hepatica plant wastes no time to get a new suit of leaves. It makes its old do until the blossom has had its day. As new leaves have started to be sure before this, have a chance. These delayed, are ready to help next season. You will find hepatica in clusters, a kind family groups. They are likely to be in rather open places in the woods. The soil is rich and be loose. So they should go in that semi-shaded areas and under conditions of good soil. If planted with other specimens of wood to make them eligible for a position rather exposed, they may catch the spring sun. I have to cover more hepatica with a litter of leaves in autumn light. During the days of February, unless the weather is extreme take this leaf covering away. You'll find the hepatica blossoms all ready to poke their heads.
