Do growth first vines really create a better wine?
In France, for example, wines made from vines grow first, are more expensive. I feel it's mostly hype, followed by the fact that wineries probably put more energy into the process of winemaking and viticulture to ensure that the wines are excellent. There are all sorts of techniques for making a great wine. Is this really really have Old vines make that big of a difference? Thank you! Thank you, 12 days of the Saturnalia, good answer. Does anyone know if the growth first 1er Cru, need to be a certain age before harvest?
First, you confuse "growth first" and "Old vines" have different meanings while "growth first" premier cru aka, means in this case is an arbitrary classification of vineyards of Bordeaux in the mid 19th century …. it has no direct correlation with whether these vines still produce quality today or not, it's really just a relic in a country that adores relics. In fact, it is not uncommon for the vines with a ranking from that moment a large hollow based on their reputation, and begin to produce less than stellar wine …. and yet for some reason, this classification still holds some value for some types of quasi-mystical, now, on the other hand, generally around the world, old vines (in French, Vieilles Vignes) produce better wine ….. Most vines are replaced after about 40 years, but some exceptions are known to be over 100 years (including Zinfandel, California growing without the need of a lattice of fact, if the thickness of the trunks)
