Tall Bearded

Tall Bearded
I have a male bearded dragon in a cage, a 160W light bulb is too hot for him?

Ok, the cage is 3 feet wide, 17 inches high, and 16 in depth. The light is on one end of the cage with newspaper underneath. the bulb would be about 15 from him when he is next newspaper, and about 8 from him when he is on most of the newspaper. It is about 2 years. The bulb is a 160W Solar Glo UVA / UVB bulb.

i hope it helps …………….. Enclosure The cage must be at least 122cm x 33cm to accommodate an adult Beardie. Leather, sun and shade climbing areas must be provided. They originate from the deserts of Australia to their temperature and lighting requirements are very important. They, like all reptiles, need a heat gradient in their tanks. The temperature in the warm side of the tank must be 34 degrees Celsius basking site, and the temperature in the cool side of the tank is at 21 degrees Celsius. The Beardie should be able to spend warm side to the cold side of the tank to regulate body temperature and metabolism. Heating can be provided either by a sub-mat heating of the substrate, an infrared bulb or a bulb heating ceramic, or all three if your tank is that large. Although Beardies are desert animals, they enjoy soaking themselves at so ensure you provide a water bowl large enough for your Beardie integrate and deep enough so that water comes halfway up the body. Lighting is also extremely important for healthy Beardies A. If they do not have access to at least 2 hours of direct sun each day they must have a UV bulb in their tanks. They need UVB or they can not absorb calcium. A full range UV bulb should be installed in the tank at a height not exceeding 15cm of the body when the Beardie crumble. These bulbs must be replaced every 3 to 18 months depending on the product they can be placed on the optimal UV for a period of time. The sun is the source of far better and cheaper UV rays. If a glass tank is used, remember UV rays can not pass through glass and aquarium glass heat up very fast and very high temperatures. Do not leave an animal in a glass tank in the sun or they will become much warmer and may die of heat stroke. Good substrates to use in the enclosure are a bare floor, newspapers, towels, rabbit pellets, and Astro-turf. Do not keep a Beardie on sand or gravel as it may be eaten causing a compaction of gravel
