Tropical Canna

Tropical Canna
Anyone have an experience of division and / or transplant cannas?

I have these huge yellow cannas in front of my porch. Even if they are nice and everyone seems to love them (I've never heard of them til I moved into this house) they are cramped, overcrowded and taking on the front of my house. I read they need a tropical environment, warm and moist soil. I'm not sure where to move again (if the hose will reach), but they must go! Any tips?

These are very easy to split and transplant. When you dig their support, be sure to get all of the clump. You can then use a sharp knife to divide them into clumps of three or four bulbs. When you do the transplant, it is preferable to cut the top off (about a foot tall). They grow like an onion, whose stems and form new leaves from the middle. Shortly after planting, you should begin to see the center stems begin to grow to form new plants. While they are in a supportive environment, they are very hardy and prolific.
