The Sweet Bay Magnolia is sometimes known as Sweet Bay, Magnolia swamp or marsh of the Bay. First was found in European gardens as far back as 1688. The settlers referred to it as the beaver tree, because their fleshy roots helped them trapping beavers.
This tree is found naturally in areas that are moist and humid as along ponds, streams and wetlands. It arise itself after a brush fire and form. It is more common in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama, but can also be found in New York, Texas, Tennessee and Arkansas
Sweet Bay Magnolia trees can be deciduous or evergreen depending on climate. In areas with mild winders in the range of the south, tends to be evergreen, although deciduous farther north.
Appearance
These trees are medium in size, in general, leafy trees perennial can reach heights of thirty feet. They have an open crown lightly spread of the branches. The crust is thin but very tight, and it is a gray-brown. The inner bark has a sweet smell to it, similar to the laurel spices.
