Orchid Oncidium

Orchid Oncidium
Orchid Care Basic?

I bought a lot of plants, orchids and killed. After more than about 3 dozen (I lost count) in 5 years, I finally got 2 of my orchids alive, there are over 6 months. One is Oncidium, Dendrobium is another. I was placing them in the bathroom window above the shower after the bloom has fallen. The oncidium has spiked again (Yipee). The dendrobium looks good, but I cut the flower stalks after bloom has fallen months ago. Is this okay? I'll buy several other orchids (1 Vanda, 1 Phal, 1 cymbidium and cattleya 1). None of them can be planted outside? Also, any tips on how to cut stems after flowering for each species are appreciated. For fertilization, I read that I should fertilize every 10 days to 2 weeks. How long should I do and when? Is it all year? Is the method of fertilization the same for all species of orchids? When will bloom for each case? What type of orchid media should I use? Thank you very much for the advice.

Each type has its own particular needs, but there are a number of general rules for orchids. Usually orchids in pots are placed on a tray of pebbles. Place the tray on a ledge window located near a radiator. Protect the plant against strong direct sunlight. Orchid houseplants can tolerate conditions of hot and stuffy if good ventilation is necessary, even in winter. The plant can be taken outside during warm sunny days. Indoors avoid cold drafts. Food during the summer months.Orchids like being pot-bound, but few years after repotting is necessary. Use a special orchid mix soil. Keep the soil moist, reduce watering in winter. With a cattleya, Miltonia ocidium and let the surface dry between waterings. Use hot water with fresh orchids rainwater.Several have a resting phase, usually in the fall. Some plants respond to feeding during the growing season. Consult a nurseryman regarding fertilization, since each variety has its own needs. Plants can be killed by over-feeding.Generally orchids as a daily temperature of about 70 deg. F in the summer, 60 deg. F ind winter and a fall in the night of 10 deg. F. The cool nights are important.Orchids need 10 to 15 hours of light each day – in winter, use artificial light.Vandas need lots of light all year, but especially from November to require February.Phalaenopsis increasingly hot conditions than most orchids. Window of the kitchen and bathroom a good location. Soil mixture for cattleyas. When cutting flowers, leave part of the main stem for another round of flowers may develop from dormant buds. This variety is not easy to cultivate.
