Is there a season for citrus?
I work in Tuscany yet. (yes lucky me) There are oranges and lemons on the trees! I have several questions about this … Have they increased recently or during the winter? Is there a specific season for harvesting citrus?. Want an orange or lemon trees grow in Britain? The reason I ask is that I really had not appreciated the ZING of a new, just off the tree, lemon. It was as if I had never had real LEMON before, only pale imitations. My wife and I are going to live in Britain in less 
than two weeks. We would be able to develop our own citrus trees. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
The picking season citrus is at its best now in Italian: fruit grow during the winter. lemons and citrus types are intolerant to frost thrive in warm (not tropical!) climates (Italy, Spain, Morocco. Algeria and the Mediterranean). They do not also strong winds. The climate in France is not suited to the cultivation of citrus trees outside, which explains why the stately homes there was a “Orangerie” (a building that has been heated and facing south) to grow oranges. Britain in particular, whilst it has a warmer climate because of the Gulf Stream bathing its coast is often cloudy and damp in winter and suffers from very hard frosts. Depending on where you live, it can also be very windy. It is a farming region and so intensely lemon were a possibility, they were grown there long ago. You could have a big greenhouse, you need to keep warm and try to grow your tree there. I hope you are well settled in Britain and manage to grow your own lemon tree under glass! Good luck!
