Picking the right tomato for your garden

Could you imagine where the pizza industry would be today without tomato sauce?  Both first condiment in the United States, ketchup and salsa, are tomato. It is safe to say that the tomato is an entity all-American culinary Sharing a piece of Americana from the ranks of apple pie, maple syrup, and that basic commodities, good corn OLE. We became very familiar with the pale, mild-flavored tomato hybrids in supermarkets, pasta, canned thick, and cherries in your pretty little salad bar local. But for those of us who really love tomatoes, and you are looking for something a little more unique or very specific, we develop our own. I will try to briefly on the basis of tomato varieties that gardeners should be familiar with.

Determined from a indeterminate
Many producers have heard these terms applied to a few different fruits. These words refer to the habit Plant-specific production of fruit.

Determinate tomato varieties produce a bountiful harvest and produce little or no fruit for the rest of the season. They are generally shorter than the indeterminate varieties and have a fixed height. Thus, it is not necessary of the issues. It is often paste or plum tomato varieties.

Indeterminate or vining varieties will be the variety most common for home gardeners. They produce a continuous harvest all summer until frost, then they will start to die.

Tomato Varieties
Your level or slicing tomatoes are the tomatoes of medium size, round-town. These are most often used in soups or sliced for salads. You’ve seen these plates in six-pack at your local supermarket.

Beef steak  tomatoes are large, some up 2 pounds. They are the ones that, when slices sandwiches into shape, and burgers very well. Beef varieties are also interesting for stuffing and baking. They are rarely found in supermarkets because their size and tenderness that makes them more trouble than they are worth for the supermarkets. But they are a dream garden, a great return on investment simply delicious in a tiny packet of seeds. Some popular cultivars of this variety are Better Boy, Big Beef ‘and’ Whopper’s Park.

Cherry  tomatoes are very small tomatoes, ranging from not much bigger than the tip of your finger on the size of a golf ball. They are often very soft and perfect by themselves as a snack. They are sublime salad of tomatoes, because they add much flavor, and you do not have to decide. The elongated cherry tomatoes are smaller and sweeter also variation flavorful cherry tomato. cherry tomato plants produce a large quantity of fruit, so you do not need many plants to get plenty of tomatoes.

Paste or plum tomatoes  are, as its name implies, often used for canning and sauces. They work well for this because they are less juicy than other varieties, they have no nucleus, and they have far fewer seeds than other varieties. They are generally small in size and shape slightly elongated or pear-shaped. “They are often grouped under” Roma “tomatoes, which is actually a cultivar of this variety tomato.

Choose wisely your tomato
Breeders have had fun with this popular garden plant. They come in all sizes and colors, pink and striped to almost black. But the best way to choose your tomatoes is to grow to your needs. If you want tomato sandwiches, steaks grow beef. If you love tomatoes in your salad, try different cherries. If your garden is the source of most of your canned goods, you should probably try to push a little tomato paste. Growing your own tomatoes will give you the power of selection and power on the methods of cultivation. It is cheaper than buying at the supermarket, and it can be much more rewarding. Have fun in your garden, and the growth of the tomato is just right for you.
