Supplies for hydroponics Ebb and Flow System
The flux and flow system, also known as the flood and drain system, is one of the most popular systems beginners choose to start hydroponics. It requires most basic supplies hydroponics and very little maintenance. It works by flooding the stage of growth for a period of time to soak the roots and then allow the nutrient solution flow into the tank. This occurs several times a day. The exact number of floods depends what kind of plants you grow.
You will need hydroponics supplies the following:
Ebb and Flow Tray – Make sure that the solution of the tray that you use is made of thick plastic and can support your plants, growing medium, nutrients and easily. Make sure that when the tray drains, it leaves the tray bottom practically dry. If there are spots with “puddles”, it may on water some plants because of your roots to rot.
Buckets or modules – Instead of a tray, you may also use several buckets or modules where you place the plants individually. This has the advantage of allowing you to extend your hydroponic system more easily.
Support Structure Support – since the reservoir is generally not sufficient for your tank, you’ll probably need to buy a support structure separately.
Reservoir – This is where you can store your nutrient solution. Make sure to clean and disinfect your tank before filling. Your tank must be black and block as much light as possible to prevent the growth of algae.
Fittings and pipes – These supplies include hydroponic pipe that will pump the nutrient solution in the tank and an overflow drain. The overflow drain will be placed at the highest where you want the water level to rise and is designed to prevent the nutrient solution to the flooding of your grow room.
Containers – Use plastic containers to hold your plants.
The culture medium – is what will support your roots. Popular choices include fiber coir, rockwool and perlite.
Pump and Timer – Your pump flood the shelf to grow your timer and turn the pump on and off according to your settings.
To assemble these hydroponic supplies, first install your fitting and filling the overflow drain in your growing tray. Place the tray grow on the structure of your support and place the tank as such. Put your submersible pump in the tank and connect it to the filling plant on the plateau of growth. Now connect the pump to the timer. Test your system, making certain that there are no leaks and your overflow drain works correctly.
To make the system work flow and ebb, all your timer to flood the shelf to grow three or four times a day at intervals regular. Again, the exact number will depend on the size of the plant and what type of plants you grow. Each cycle of flooding should pump on a solution 1 / 3 more nutrients than can grow tray to hold. What is the duration of each cycle of flooding will depend on the last power of your pump. Make sure to replace your nutrient solution every two weeks and monitor the pH level of your solution every day. The ideal pH for both your nutrient solution and your roots is about 5.6.
