Snowdrift crabapple tree give off a foul odor?
I visited Oklahoma City this weekend. Wherever I travel, I met beautiful trees covered with white flowers. After a little research on the Internet, I came to believe the trees were cheekbones snowdrift … but the ones I'm close were surrounded by a fetid odor, and nothing on the Internet refers to a perfume of any kind from this species. In addition, I could not be 100% positive the smell came from the trees themselves. What else could have given off such a stench if it does came not from the tree? I would like to plant these trees in my garden, but avoid it if the smell will follow!
Everything I read indicates that the crab has a sweet, not a fault. It could be the trees were sprayed with an insecticide, fungicide or such, it is really hard to know.
