My bearded irises are falling. If I planted, leaving the tops exposed in a loose soil, which holds them in place?
I just planted a hand-me-down rhizomes. They are so near the surface of the tower falling. Exactly how much of the rhizome should be visible?
When you buy bearded iris a specialized nursery that they have actually cut half the height of leaves before taking them home. The reason for this is the rhizome (hump on the back) will easily grow roots and not have to try to keep all the top Green Leaves go together. (bit of stress to the plant newly divided.). They grow new leaves quickly and coupes are not noticeable once the plant gets going. Obviously also the weight also takes longer. I've never had this problem, but when I break them I just cut the leaves in half. I live in a very hot and I bury just below the surface (just a pinch of earth on top) because sometimes the rhizome Sun burned. If you live in a very wet and cold, simply leave exposed. I think it just leaves that is causing your problems. They may rot off if over watered or rhizome is completely buried. They must, is well-drained soil, sun and regular water garden to grow well. Annual fertilizer in the growing season – autumn. No need reduce to 2 inches I've cut 4 to 5 inches without any problem.
